Soap listened to "Closer" on repeat while riding in the Hummer with Ghost post-mission. 

Ghost: "You sure love this song, don't ya?" 

Soap: "Ya, mate I do. It speaks to me." 

Ghost: "You mean the bit about *puts up quotey marks with gloved fingers​* fuckin you like an animal?"

Soap: "Oh fuck, yes please."

Ghost: "Come again, boyo?"

Soap pulls over, it's night time on the outskirts of the city.

Ghost: "Something come up, Johnny?"  *clueless, because they haven't fully given into the idea that they want one another*

Soap hums softly in his throat as he climbs into Ghost's lap, squeezing his thigh as he does it. 

"Whoa, boy, what's this then?" Ghost's hands are up in surrender, he is sweating mentally a little in his mask. ​

Soap plants kisses all over his mask, taking some of the soft material between his teeth and tugging like a playful pup. 

Ghost finally lets his hands down and starts massaging Soap's muscular back, where his armored vest doesn't cover it. The impressive, tense muscles yield to his curious fingertips. Soap pulls the mask down from Ghost's mouth and traces his peachy lips with a gloved thumb. 

"So fuckin tasty, Si." Soap tells him with a knowing smirk, before planting a hard, moist kiss on him. He pulls back, sucking on Ghost's lower lip. 

Ghost can't stop himself, he grabs Soap's ass roughly, palming, squeezing and shaking the firm, ample globes. Soap doesn't warn him, he reaches down and reclines the seat too fast, they fall back. "Closer" starts up again and Ghost kicks the radio off with a heavy boot and grabs Soap with a growl, they tumble and wrestle into the large back seat, biting and pulling at one another. 

Soap starts tearing everything off; Velcro ripping and peeling, snaps snapping, buttons popping off, zippers running down, getting jammed with haste. Desmond, bartender in 2000s-2010s New York would absolutely binge shitty reality tv and adore eavesdropping on patrons when he can't get his drama fix. He's the RPG tavern owner who you ask if he has heard any rumors and his eyes light up because now he can info dump all the shit he hears. This follows him to the past, where now he has to actively seek out this entertainment.

He abuses his enhanced senses to sit on roofs and listen in with a hand to his mouth like, "oh my god. They were roommates." He is both the best informant and the worst because, while he is a master at getting information, the details he focuses on are useless to the Order.

"Please, Desmond, I am begging you just tell me the information for the mission."

In Altair's time, Malik was originally Desmond's go to but after being chased out one to many times for "loitering and disturbing the peace of the bureau" (i.e. Malik's peace) Desmond switches to the Rafiq in Damascus since he "at least appreciates me." Eventually Malik would begrudgingly miss his presents and send a request for him to come back because Desmond is the only one he can rant at about Altair.

Altair does not know what the hell Desmond is talking about half the time, but now he does know the baker has three sons that his wife never knew of and one of the sons has shown up at the baker's home.

He normally will just let Desmond keep talking cause he likes his voice.

In Ezio's time he is best friends with Claudia and her girls love him. He'll drop in and gossip with them about their patrons or even warn them about some of them. "Be careful I heard that he has some craziness going on between the legs." or the girls will ask questions about Ezio.

With Claudia he talks about the goings on in Tiber Island and what Ezio is up to. Ezio doesn't know how the hell his sister knows everything he is doing or why he gets a message from her forbidding him from doing something he hasn't even gotten to do yet and Desmond just stands off to the side sweating.

Connor is gonna go gray early with how often Desmond just disappears from the Homestead because he seems hellbent on not staying still as it gets "to boring there". Desmond will normally pop up in the strangest of places. Either Connor will find him, head tilted like a dog as he listens in on a group or Desmond will just hunt Connor down himself. "Heard you were in the area."

At time he loves it because Desmond always has a ready flow of information and he is very good at sowing discontent with it, making for good distractions. On the other hand he can do without the open commentary or rampant attention he gives any interaction Connor has with his father.

Davenport canonically says he's been teaching Barry to fly the Starblaster (as early as Cycle 17, a.k.a. Episode 61), and even trusts Barry enough to leave him solely in charge of the ship, specifically when the whole rest of the crew is literally diving into a flooded city with no idea what they'll find beneath, i.e., could easily all just fucking die. this was before the Hunger really Got Good, so to speak, at singling out and attacking the Starblaster, or catching the crew unawares, but regardless, I would like to propose...

Barry's fucking great at piloting the ship, especially relative to his amount of practice... and he fucking hates it. Barry's not Dav-level good, not by a long shot, but he's naturally talented as hell by the standards of people who aren't first-name-Captain, last-name-Davenport. except... Cap, you gotta understand... flying the ship is scary. flying the ship away from the Hunger singlehandedly is so scary. and flying the ship under technically lower stakes, but while his Captain and friends are there watching him? and able to be disappointed in him if he messes up? is so so so scary. the scariest thing of all, somehow.

Davenport trains Barry, Lup, and Magnus in piloting semi-simultaneously, so he gets them to compete with each others' times for flying around the robot planet, and Barry always absolutely crushes it, and then has to go breathe into a paper bag afterwards. he had enough anxiety driving through roundabouts with other people in his car to judge him back while he was on his home plane. he was the kind of guy to worry that people would think less of him if he slipped into always-goddamn-tempting road rage, or if he used his signal like a fucking nerd. upgrading from a car to a spaceship was never going to be for him.

Tim makes this baby with his and Kon’s DNA. A grief baby. He takes one look and panics, because yeah, that’s his kid and he loves him.

But also, bringing him into the world right now is a terrible idea.

He doesn’t have the time, not with WE, and finding out Bruce might be alive, and taking on more cases and patrol routes. And he definitely isn’t in the right headspace for it. So he just decides to…you know, wait it out a little bit. Come back for his kid when it’s a better time.

He’s in a tube, after all, so he’s safe.

Then Kon finds him.

And Kon is already in love with him. Takes him home. Believes that Tim will be back from his mission soon enough.

He’s not.

By time he finally gets back, is “ready” to be a parent, the kid hates him. Doesn’t consider him his dad.

Tim had unknowingly made the exact same mistake his parents did.

hi guys i need to be autistic about film scores for a second

so im rewatching mission impossible: rogue nation (for the third time in a week. don't mention it) and realized something about the non-diegetic music just before ethan goes into the opera: it features a flute. not just any flute, a bass flute!

this is most noticeable in the track starting right around the 3:40 mark. a few notes of the "mission impossible" theme is also played on bass flute at 4:40.

"now mav," you may be asking, "why do we care?" and to that i respond with two main reasons:

bass flute is a rare instrument to hear in film scores, mostly because it's a rare instrument in general. nearly every other time in the score when the typical mission impossible theme is played, it's introduced by your typical C flute, occasionally accompanied by piccolo trills. but this time, it's just one bar with a lone bass flute. why?

to answer the "why," it's highlighting joe kraemer's strike of genius in composing the score: he is using the instrument to foreshadow what comes next. the next scene shows a presumed musician getting his bass flute checked by security, and we later learn that there is a weapon hiding inside the flute (which, coming from a flute player, is a fantastic idea. nobody expects the bass flute!). by featuring the bass flute and having it play the mission impossible theme before we even see the plot-relevant bass flute in the film, we (the audience) are having something important alluded to us: this instrument is going to be relevant.

film composers love to do this; sprinkling blatant foreshadowing into their scores, telling the audience what's coming next in a way that the majority of viewers won't ever pick up. this is probably going to send me into yet another rewatch of the film where i try to find more silly little tidbits in the music.

anyways. that was a brief analysis of the importance of one singular instrument in a movie that came out a decade ago. thanks for letting me yap.
